The Herne Bay cartoon festival was started back in 2013 by Steve Coombes and Sue Austen. This year over a dozen of the countries best cartoonists painted on big boards for a chance to present their work to the general public. Cartoonists play an important role in forming public opinion, their satirical character of this form of journalism adds to its appeal. By combining humour with the latest political news, cartoonists can reinforce their messaging, focusing on the frequently ridiculous nature of stories. Cartoonists included – Martin Rowson, Jeremy Banx, Chris Burke, Carol Isaacs aka The Surreal McCoy, Guy Venables, Royston Robertson, Rob Murray, Clive Goddard, Kathryn Lamb, James Mellor, Zoom Rockman and Glenn Marshall.
